Operating a Motorcycle in Idaho
In order to operate a motorcycle in the state of Idaho you must:
- Meet the state’s minimum age requirement
- Obtain an Idaho motorcycle license endorsement (you may also need to obtain a motorcycle instruction permit)
- Register your motorcycle with the state of Idaho
- Obtain insurance coverage that meets Idaho state requirements

Getting an Idaho Motorcycle License
According to the Idaho Transportation Department Division of Motor Vehicles, in addition to meeting the requirements necessary to obtain a regular driver’s license, individuals must apply for a motorcycle license endorsement to operate a motorcycle.

Motorcycle Education & Training in Idaho
Motorcyclists should sign up for a motorcycle safety course. In Idaho, it is not mandatory to complete a motorcycle safety course to obtain an Idaho Class M license, unless you are under the age of 21.
